Current Information:Age-19 3, Ash Road, Stratford Agny Military Cemetery, France
At the end of February 1916, 14th Division, which included 6th Cornwall Light Infantry of 43 Brigade, left the Ypres salient and moved south to the Agny-Achicourt sector near Arras. They remained here until the end of July when they joined the battle raging on the Somme. The History of the Regiment records that their time here at Arras was ‘the usual round of trench warfare’, without going into further detail. 3 men from 6th Cornwall Light Infantry, all Londoners and including Charles Mead, were killed in action on 3rd March, 1916. The most likely explanation for their deaths is shell fire. |
